Singer 201-2

Vintage straight-stitch machine that works well.

Very smooth, is a joy to sew with. Kinda sounds like a train (not loud, just that smooth solid mechanical whir) when it's really going. I think that's because the bobbin case doesn't spin back and forth, but spins continuously in the same direction.

The feed dog and presser foot make sewing curves on lighter/medium fabrics easier than my other three machines.

Only downside, and this is to be expected, is it doesn't have the piercing ability of my Singer 237. I think there may be mechanical issues with it. Sometimes the needle stops because it can't pierce the fabrics, but something continues to move in the machine. Maybe a worn gear or something? This has the potted motor, so there's no belt.

It also needs to be re-wired for safety, as the insulation on the wires is ancient and could fail leading to electrocution. It's a task I've been putting off, so I haven't used the machine much since I picked up the Singer 237.
